Art Carney's screen-worn hat from his Oscar-winning role as Harry Coombes in the 1974 film Harry and Tonto, with a tag safety-pinned inside, signed and inscribed in black felt tip, "To Bob, Love, Art Carney." The reverse of the tag bears a typed description: "Costume Collection, Item: Brown Plaid Men's Hat, Production: 'Harry and Tonto,' Actor: Art Carney." Includes an original color lobby card for the film that shows Carney wearing the hat, signed in black felt tip, "Best Wishes, Art Carney," framed to an overall size of 15 x 12. Also includes an ALS by Carney, one page, 8.5 x 11, in part: "Dear Dr., Really—I am not an artist! All I can draw are ridiculous profiles! I have never completely done the Honeymooners. All I can do is this:," sketching a humorous self-portrait below. In fine condition. All of these items were gifted by Carney to a doctor ("Bob") who was a neighbor in Connecticut. Carney won the 1974 Academy Award for Best Actor for playing Harry Combes, beating out iconic performances by Jack Nicholson (Chinatown) and Al Pacino (The Godfather Part II) for the prize.
