This book is a reprint of the 1921 sale of the collection of the late Prof. S. Pozzi that he had collected during the last 25 years of his career so nobly filled and so tragically ended. Few public collections can present such an accumulation of first-rate rarities. Some series were particularly sought after by the late S. Pozzi: note the very rich suites of Mend‚, AbdŠre, Acanthus, Aenos, Chalcidice, Elide and Crete, very beautiful pieces by Clazomene, a remarkable combination of staters from Melos, electrum staters of Cyric; the very well-represented series from Sicily has, among other things, two very rare Gela pieces; note a gold stater from Athens with the name of Mithradate, several tetradrachms of remarkable rarity from the kings of Pontus, a very fine suite from the Seleucids, the Lagides and Cyrenaica. This catalog has been compiled with the utmost care. Mention has been made of references to Head, Babelon and British Museum catalogs as well as more recent special works. Each coin has been carefully weighed so that this work can provide an important contribution to the study of monetary metrology. A good reprint of the important Pozzi sale. Lot weight: 3 lbs 0oz. Subject(s): Ancient Coinage.
