Arne Jacobsen A Rare "Oxford" High-Back Chair, ca. 1963 manufactured by Fritz Hansen in a small series of eighteen, Allerod, Denmark; laminated rosewood, rubber feet, branded with firm's marks 50 in. (121.7 cm) high Estimate: - $18,000-22,000 Literature Carsten Thau and Kjeld Vindum, Arne Jacobsen, Copenhagen, 2001, p. 490 (for an illustration of the model in the refectory of St. Catherine's College) and p. 523 (for a discussion of the model) Only eighteen "Oxford" chairs were constructed in laminated rosewood, of which twelve remain around the Fellow's Table in the refectory of St. Catherine's College, Oxford. Also known as the "St. Catherine's" high-back chair, this small group represents the first edition of the "Oxford" series, which would be mass-produced in several formats by Fritz Hansen.
