Vintage, well preserved, check in the amount of $150.00, drawn on the Chicago Merchants Loan and Trust Co. on Jan 10th, 1883, signed by Geo. Huddleston to W F Witherell resident in Tombstone, Arizona. W F Witherell, (1841-1893), came to Arizona after the Civil War hoping the warm weather climate would speed his recovery from a spinal injury. He became involved in surveying the construction of early roads and water canals and was later appointed as Mining Engineer in the 1870s in Tombstone, Arizona. He was later appointed as the Superintendent of Mines for the Arizona Gold and Silver Mining Co. A cancelled Mine Bond for 100 shares is also included.
