c1960s - This lot contains two silver ingots. 1) A 5.52 troy oz. 999 fine silver ingot marked DESERT REFINING/ INTL. INC. The other is a 3.83 troy oz. 999 fine Bread Loaf ingot marked ARIZONA ASSAY OFFICE REG. NO. 5479. "Charles Diehl was an assayer in Goldfield, Nevada between 1907 and 1910. Diehl moved to Phoenix, Arizona and started the Arizona Assay office. He sold the company to Jack Stone, who operated the company through the 1960s, with an office at 815 N. First Street. These ingots were made for Paul Franklin (Arizona Silver Co.) in 1969, and he retained a letter from Stone in his personal files regarding these ingots. Franklin had one of the gold ingots made into a bolo tie, which he wore at numismatic events. There has been speculation that these ingots are made of metals mined in Arizona, a common practice for local western assayers of the late twentieth century" [Holabird-Kagin`s Presents Fall 2006, page 8]. -62013
