c1900-1910 - Lot of 4 photos. 1) An American Indian woman is seated on the ground in front of her home, grinding meal with a traditional mano and metate. Several dogs sit and stand nearby. The photo is mounted on a gray mat (with two holes punched in one end for a ring binder), and the mat is stamped “Messenger Views, Phoenix A.T.” 2) A 7.5" x 4.5" print of a church. White lettering indicates "M.F. Church PhAT" on the lower left edge of the print. Two small tears along top edge of photo, which is mounted to the reverse of the first photo in this lot. 3) This photo shows an American Indian woman in a long dress, with a plaid shawl draped over her shoulders, and she is holding a small black puppy. She is standing in front of an adobe building with a wooden door directly behind her. The roof appears to be thatched. She looks to be of a Pueblo tribe, as the adobe behind her suggests. Photo measures 4.5" x 7.5" and is glued to a black mat (also with holes punched at one end for a ring binder). No photographer is noted. 4) This is a picture of an adult American Indian climbing a crude wooden ladder leaning against an adobe pueblo. The figure is holding a large bundle wrapped in a blanket over his/her shoulder that obscures the upper part of the body. A small child, perhaps 5 years old, sits at the base of the pueblo, and two pigs stand beyond the ladder’s base. The photo is captioned, “Home Life in Acoma” (Acoma Pueblo, Grants Co., NM). Measures 4.5" x 6.5" and is also glued to gray album paper. No photographer is indicated. - Mueller Collection -61353
