Entre Rios Silver 1/2 Real 1867, similar to KM1, but with an obverse highly similar to the circulating USA $1 gold pieces of the era, designed by Longacre. During this period of political and economic upheaval, the local governor of this northeastern province of Argentina, General Urquiza, authorized an Italian, Pablo Cataldi, to make coins for the settlers in the area. The reverse features the legends: "Moneda Circulante de San Jose, Un Medio, 1867." The weight, 1.69 grams, and fineness matched the expected specifications for a Spanish colonial Medio Real. Shortly following the issue of the Entre Rios coinage, debased Bolivian coinage flooded the market and the higher fineness specie was hoarded and presumably melted, another victim of Gresham's law. Extremely rare with only three known examples. Nicely toned VF+.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
