An uncut sheet of four American Bank Note Company proofs for The Banking House of F. Argenti & Company. Notes are on heavy bond paper, with "Property of American Bank Note Company stamped on the reverse. There is no writing other than a small ink notation "850 E3" on the obverse and other very faint pencil marks. Notes are in three denominations $50, $100, $500 and $1,000.

Other than the aforementioned marks, notes are in mint condition, no tears, folds or dog ears. Engraved with the imprint of Rawdon, Hatch and Edson of New York. Felix Argenti, along with partner T. Allen organized the San Francisco based banking house in 1849. In early 1850, the firm decided to put printed bank notes into circulation in California without success. In 1854 they stopped accepting deposits but continued to sell exchange on banks in France and England. The company went bankrupt and closed its doors May 3, 1856.
