Archives & Documents Ordonnance du Roy portant Déclaration de guerre contre l'Empereur, l'Angleterre, les États généraux des Provinces-Unies, & leurs Alliez. Tournay, Vincent De Backer, 1702. In-plano volant (traces de pli, trou avec petit manque de papier dans la note ms. dans la marge inf.). Rare ordonnance émanant de Louis XIV à Marly, le 3 juillet 1702, suite au "non respect" du Traité de Ryswick (1697). Ce traité mettait fin à la Ligue d'Augsburg (1686), coalition européenne contre les visées annexionistes de Louis XIV, et l'obligeait à rendre les conquêtes postérieures à la Paix de Nimègue (1679). Or, en 1700, Charles II d'Espagne meurt sans héritier et le trône passe au duc d'Anjou, petit-fils du roi de France qui règne sous le nom de Philippe V. Dès lors, l'Angleterre, les Provinces-Unies, les Habsbourg et le St-Empire s'unissent contre l'alliance franco-espagnole et Louis XIV réagit dans cette ordonnance. Note manuscrite marginale signée par Du Pesson (?) et Montbrons (?) : "On avertit quon donnera 300 livres pour cha[cun] des sujets de Sa majesté quon arrestera Engagé dans un service Ennemy, et qu'ils seront condamnés à la mort par le Conseil de guerre par ordre du 10 juillet 1702".# manque à Desmazières; # manque à la KBR (qui conserve cependant la même ordonnance mais imprimée à Paris, Frederic Leonard). Note ms. par l'échevin de l'enregistrement de l'ordonnance : "Publié à la Bretesque de la ville d'Ipre [...] le xxii de Juillet 1702 [...]. 100 Euros

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 3.000 BEF will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Belgian Francs. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 7.000 BEF or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Belgian francs (BEF).
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 50.000 BEF.
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
