ALS, three pages on two sheets, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, June 8, 1965. Letter to fellow boxer Harold Johnson. In part: “I have a corp. that will bring you out to Calif. I am the pres. of the corp and will pay you $250.00 per week so as to let your family have sustenance while you train under me, you will live in my home and train at my gym…You see, I write for an English syndicated newspaper that has 14 outlets. The stories I write for you will make the promoters there anxious to use you and the fans to see you perform. We will be a great team, and make lots of money. It is a damn shame that you, the best fighter around today has to sit twiddling your thumbs, with a big family while bums like Liston has made all that dough.” Another unsigned ALS from Moore to Johnson, dated the next day, in part: “You don’t realize fully yet just how great a fighter you are. It is my aim, my ambition to showcase you as a complete fighter you are still young enough, yet you have all the experience necessary to regain the title, and go on to the big one.” In very good to fine condition, with intersecting folds and scattered creases to both. Accompanied by a letter from Johnson replying to Moore and three original mailing envelopes addressed in Moore’s hand.
