Archie Moore's personally-owned and -worn black-and-gold boxing robe used in iconic fights including his 1956 fight against Yolande Pompey and his 1957 bout against Tony Anthony. The robe has been prominently signed on the left cuff in black felt tip, "Archie Moore." It features a black floral-patterned exterior with gold piping, and cream-and-gold embroidered trim and lining. The robe is complete with its matching sash. In fine condition, with a somewhat musty odor. Accompanied by a handwritten provenance statement from Moore, dated September 3, 1992, in full: "I used this robe in several championship matches including Tony Anthony, Yolande Pompey, etc., Archie Moore." Also includes a copy of a statement concerning the disposition of some of Moore's fight-used memorabilia, noting that it had previously been sold to Marty Jacobs of the Sands Hotel Boxing Museum; the statement recounts a meeting with Moore, in which he said that he used the robe for many years, and that it was made for him by the mother of his ex-wife. A superb piece of boxing history.
