<td width="100%">
Shang period calligraphy receptacle carved in green jade. The back is represented as a lotus leaf and has an archaic Chinese inscription in a panel. A raised border forms a basin allowing to wash the brush and a depressed round basin is carved for ink mixing. There is surface etching and fossilization due to prolonged burial underground. This is a very rare ink stone and the earliest ever seen used for calligraphy. Provenance: Dr. Veleanu's jade collection, the author of collectors textbook: "Jade, 5000 BC to 1912, Guide to collectors" and the owner of the Objets d'Art Uniques Internet store. Estimated value: $5000.
