The lot features an exceptional authentic set of fully top beaded moccasins from the Arapaho Native American Indians and dating to circa 1890-1900. These moccasins were found to be authentic correct examples by the American Indian experts at Heritage Auctions. Provenance: From the Larry Simmons Collection of Great Falls, Virginia and previously authenticated by Heritage Auctions experts. The set shows a fine Indian tanned hide construction with thick Great American Bison Buffalo hide soles having correct wear and patina for their early age. The entire top of the moccasins, including the unique high ankle, are covered in correct 19th Century glass trade seed beads with the entire moccasin being sewn with sinew and trade thread. The seed beadwork shows a sky padre blue base with reaccuring lodge or house like pictorial symbol having a semi-transparent dark blue outer edge with greasy yellow center and white lined red heart door or lower square. The entire edge of the unique high ankle and large tongue show a wonderful fancy beaded edge with petite glass trade seed beads in greasy yellow and semi-transparet dark blue. The original tie holding the moccasin ankle together is still intact, a rare addition. These are in original excellent condition for their early age with little to no bead loss. The rear of the set includes a fantastic and rare addition of long hand cut Indian tanned hide fringe. The Moccasins measure 11" long (without fringe), 3 7/8" wide, and 3 5/8" tall. Truly a fine addition to any collection and one of the nicer authentic pairs currently offered for sale.
