April 3, 1755-Dated French & Indian War Era, Historic Imprint titled, “Mr. Morrill’s Sermon to a Company of Soldiers,” by Isaac Morrill (1718-1793), Pastor of the Church of Christ in Wilmington (MA), Printed and Sold by J. Draper, in Cornhil (sic), Very Good.
This extremely rare Printed Sermon from the French & Indian War dates from 1755, measures 5.25” x 8.25”, 22 pages, with its original stitching and wrappers. “The Soldier exhorted to COURAGE in the Service of his King and Country, from a Sense of GOD and RELIGION: IN A SERMON Preached At WILMINGTON, April 3, 1755...” This sermon was preached by Morrill to: “To Capt. Phinehas Osgood and His Company of Soldiers: Before their going out into Publick Service.” Bible verses on the title page reads, “ 2 Sam. 17.8. And thy Father is a Man of War -- Judges 5.18. Zebulun and Naphtali were a People that jeoparded their Lives unto the Death, in the high Places of the Field.” Age tone on all pages and some damp staining and wear, with significant internal tears to the outer leafs. Rough edges from use, internally even in appearance and easy to read. Extremely rare, lacking in most all collections.
