April 20, 1865-Dated Civil War Period Handwritten Letter, Mourning the Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, with its custom designed Handmade “Triangular” shaped Postally Used with Fancy Cancel Stamped Envelope, Very Fine.
April 20, 1865-Dated Civil War Period, Personal Autographed Letter, measuring 5” x 8”, 4 pages, Upshur, Ohio. Wriiten by Lydia Harmon and sent to Norma Carter of Lafayette, Indiana. Folded in such a way as to fit into a custom hand-made triangular postally used and fancy cancelled stamped envelope. Letter has mostly personal news, however she writes, on page 3, in part:

"I think now the carnage of war will soon be over if our armies still remain victorious but Oh! the best and kindest of many had to fall before the traitors fell our beloved president - who has seen nothing like peace in the last four years. The villain will have to pay the penalty if not before he enters into eternity. How our nation was rejoicing over the surrender of Lee and army when mourning was brought upon the land. Every loyal heart can not help but burn with indignation at those plotters of the north...”
