April 17, 1865-Dated, “WAR DEPARTMENT” Special Issued General Orders No. 69 Regarding the Funeral of Abraham Lincoln, Very Fine.
An extremely rare, original Civil War era printed document that measures 7.25” x 4.5,” 1 page, Washington, (DC). The following orders were given:

“By Direction of the President of the United States, the War Department will be closed on Wednesday next, the day of the funeral of the late President of the United States. Labor on that day will be suspended at all military posts, and on all public works under the direction of the War Department. The flags at all military posts, stations, forts, and buildings, will be kept at half-staff during the day, and at 12 o’clock, meridian, twenty-one minute guns will be fired from all forts, and at all military posts, and at the Military Academy.” Signed in print by W.A. Nichols, as Assistant Adjutant General.

Minor edge tear stabilized with Lamcote nylon for preservation over the blank reverse in April 1977, per a pencil notation on the back, with light soiling from apparent actual use. Extremely rare and historic, worthy of addition to any Abraham Lincoln or presidential, political related collection.
