April 15, 1865 The Evening Telegraph Newspaper with News of Lincoln's Assassination. This Third Edition of The Evening Standard details events surrounding the "National Horror" that was that fateful night at Ford's Theatre. The entire front page is splashed with a chronology from the previous night, along with a more in-depth examination of John Wilkes Booth in the fifth column, including an artist's sketch of the dastardly murderer. The last column on the front page concentrates on the inauguration of Andrew Johnson, who stated in his inaugural address: "The duties of the office of President are mine - I will perform, trusting in God." He had his work cut out for him, as a nation mourned the death of the man who saved the Union. This newspaper is in good condition, with significant paper loss, especially to the middle region and around the edges. Some wrinkling present, but very little staining. A neat display piece.

Shipping: Large Flat (view shipping information)
