<B>Appleton, WI</B></I> - $20 1882 Value Back Fr. 581 <B>The Commercial NB</B></I> Ch. # (M)2565<BR>We've handled this note once before, in January of 1992 at our Orlando, Florida auction. It sold then for $470. With three faint bends that are very easy to miss even on the closest examination, the technical grade is <B>Extremely Fine.</B></I> The aesthetic appeal of this bright and well centered note, however, is the equal of any Gem. If ever there was a note to demonstrate that grade does not equate to price, this is it. While 32 large notes are traced from this issuer, this is the only $20 Value Back documented to date. We've seen numerous notes offered and happily purchased as full Gems that were not the equal in appearance of this beautiful Wisconsin Value Back. Just 21 $20 Value Backs are recorded from nine issuers for Wisconsin. 12 other banks emitted this type and denomination and have not had any $20 Value Backs discovered to date.
