Uncommon original binder for “The Controller: General Business System,” small business management and accounting software issued by Apple Computer and the Dakin5 Corporation in 1979 for the Apple II personal computer.

The three-ring binder contains a 281-page user manual and a total of 20 Disk II floppy discs for The Controller software, including “General Ledger 1,” “Accounts Receivable 1,” “Accounts Payable 1,” “General Ledger 2,” “System Master,” “Accounts Receivable 2,” “Accounts Payable Data,” “Accounts Payable 2,” “Accounts Receivable Data” (2), and “General Ledger Data” (2), with all but the latter two with accompanying ‘backup’ discs. The manual’s table of contents features the following sections: Chapter 1: Introduction, Chapter 2: Setting Up the Controller, Chapter 3: Accounts Receivable, Chapter 4: Accounts Payable, Chapter 5: General Ledger, Chapter 6: Setting Up Accounts Receivable, Chapter 7: Setting Up Accounts Payable, Chapter 8: Setting Up General Ledger, Chapter 9: Utilities, Appendix A: Reports, Appendix B: Standards, Appendix C: Menu Map, and Index. In overall fine condition, with scattered toning and soiling to binder and first 'Notice' page, the last manual page detached but present, and the backup disc for 'Accounts Payable Data' seemingly not the original disc.

The Controller was a small business management and accounting system consisting of three major sections: accounts receivable, accounts payable, and a general ledger. The program gave business managers an easy and effective alternative to manual bookkeeping and was an early predecessor to QuickBooks.
