<B>APOPHYLLITE ON PREHNITE</B></I><BR><BR> <I>Centerville Quarry, Centerville, Augusta County, Virginia</B></I><BR>Rarely seen anymore are specimens of apophyllite from the classic locality of Centerville, Virginia. Although the trade in Indian zeolite specimens has eclipsed virtually all other localities, there are still a few American examples such as this specimen that hold their own when considered against the rest of the world. In this classic example we see a radiating group composed of large, blocky crystals of apophyllite, densely covering the matrix of translucent, pastel-green prehnite; another of the zeolite family. The apophyllite crystals are up to 1 ¾ inches in length while the entire specimen is 3 ¾ x 3 1/8 x 3 inches thick. The luster of the apophyllites goes from 'frosted' to glassy and there are some 'contact' areas along two sides which have little effect on the specimens' worth.
