Set of 18 large format color transparencies produced at NASA’s Manned Spacecraft Center (now JSC) for a presentation to the world news media on the early concepts of how the Apollo Program would transport astronauts to the moon. It is estimated these were produced in 1962–63. The transparencies are sandwiched between two thin pieces of optical glass, and sealed in 4? x 3.25? aluminum mounts. Slides placed in these large, glass & aluminum format mounts were usually slated to be projected with the large, powerful, arc-source slide projector located in the Teague Auditorium at the Manned Spacecraft Center (JSC). The slides are in very good to fine condition, but show the normal discoloration and fading associated with the type of transparency film and chemical development process of that era; several of the glass covers have cracked, but have not appeared to damage the transparency. These images would be some of the first that NASA presented to the media that began to shape the public’s ideas, and to generate the excitement of associated with sending humans to the moon.

Proceeds to benefit the Stafford Air and Space Museum (SASM).
