Apollo 8 Flown U.S. and Illinois State Flags. Both flags were carried aboard the Apollo 8 Command Module (CM-103) and are mounted on parchment type paper (11 x 14"). The autographs of the crew, Frank Borman, James Lovell and Bill Anders are in the lower left quadrant and each are clear and bold (no fading). The page is inscribed "Carried on Board Apollo 8 First Lunar Flight 21 – 27 December, 1968." The American flag measures 4 1/8 x 5 7/8" and the state flag is a fraction of an inch smaller. The consignor, a NASA retiree was in part responsible for creating such displays when the crews returned to Earth. This display was assembled and autographed in 1969. Consignor's handwritten and signed COA is included.
