American flag flown aboard the Apollo 7 mission, the first manned mission of the Apollo Space Program. Serving as a test flight, Apollo 7 flew in Earth's orbit to check that everything from control systems to life-support was working properly. 4'' x 6'' printed cloth flag is affixed to an official NASA certificate reading, ''This flag was carried aboard the first manned Apollo spacecraft'' and is signed and inscribed in felt ink pen, ''To Ron & Rosalie, I hope you enjoyed getting North American off the ground and into orbit, for the first time, as much as I did. Best Regards, Walt Cunningham''. Certificate measures 9.5'' x 11.5'', framed to an overall size of 15'' x 17''. Some minor show-through of glue from verso of flag in six spots and minor toning to certificate, else near fine.
