Rare flown piece of heat shield from the CSM-017, the spacecraft for the Apollo 4 mission, which launched from Cape Kennedy LC-39A on November 9, 1967, and splashed down eight and a half hours later in the North Pacific Ocean, measuring 3.5˝ x 1.75˝ x .75˝ and encased in a slightly larger rectangular Lucite display with a descriptive plate. In fine condition. Apollo 4 (also known as AS-501) was the first uncrewed test flight of the Saturn V launch vehicle, the type used by the U.S. Apollo program to send the first astronauts to the Moon. A decidedly rare and early piece of flown Apollo hardware.
