Training sun compass for the Apollo 15 mission, 7 x 10.75, with an 8? in diameter rotating compass wheel, printed on June 18, 1971. The front of the sun compass shows four topographical lunar reference points which provide initial bearings for each of the major landmarks on the exploration site at Hadley. Reverse side features a “Nominal Shadow Data” chart that presents key times of each EVA listed in Central Daylight Time (CDT) and the Sun shadow angles (Shadow <). Through the use of time and sun shadow angles, Apollo 15 commander Dave Scott was able to determine the bearing of various landmarks adjacent to the landing site of lunar module Falcon. In very good condition, with upper and lower captions no longer affixed to backing.
