Original remnant of beta cloth, 1 x 1, from the Apollo 14 mission. The swatch is affixed to official NASA stationery from 1971 and addressed to NASA scientist Russ Spears. The letter reads in full: “In appreciation for your outstanding support of the Apollo 14 mission we the crewmen would like to present you with this piece of equipment carried on board the spacecraft during its flight to the moon and back. We hope that this will serve to assure you of our sincere appreciation for the superior workmanship and conscientious performance that made our mission a success.” Two diagonal creases and light toning to the page, otherwise fine condition. The swatch remains clean and bright white. This rare flown memento was distributed only to key NASA ground crew and support staff. While the letter has autopen signatures, the swatch of beta and correspondence are highly prized and sought-after vintage artifacts.
