Five US-American astronaut figures which are pursuing different activities during a moon landing
This is a toy model of the lunar module ‘Eagle’ of the US-American Apollo 11 mission for the first manned flight to the moon. On July 20, 1969 the astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin landed on the moon with the Eagle and Armstrong set his foot on the lunar surface as the first man. Armstrong appears at the opening of the front hatch of the lunar module. the flag of the United States, as well as the inscriptions ‘LM’, ‘Apollo-11’, ‘Eagle’ and ‘United States’ are depicted on the toy.
Five small figures of American astronauts are conducting different tasks during a mission on the moon. The astronauts are dressed in the scape suits with helmet and oxygen devices. One of the astronauts is carrying a large US-American flag. Other astronauts are equipped with different tools. The figures were manufactured by the American toy company Louis Marx and Company in 1970. Each of the figures bears the embossed stamp of the company with date on the reverse of each plinth ‘LOUIS MARX & CO. INC. MCMLXX MADE IN U.S.A.‘.
Due to their fragile construction, only a small number of these kinds of tin toys such as the Eagle have survived. Three of the red feet and all upper red plastic pieces of the Eagle are broken. The model is slightly soiled. The lunar module is battery powered. The toy has not been tested and Auctionata does not guarantee functionality. The five figures are in good condition with partly slight yellowing of the plastic. Two astronauts have got scratched plinths. One of the astronauts has got a bumped nose. The dimensions of the Eagle are 20 x 17 x 18 cm and the figures are each max. 15 x 8.5 x 4 cm in size.
