Rarely encountered casual signed photo of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, together at an event at the National Aviation and Space Museum on 20 July 1979. The Smithsonian was honoring Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on the 10th anniversary of the first manned lunar landing. 5'' x 3.25” color photo in near fine condition. Also accompanied by a 8'' x 10'' signed color photo of Michael Collins in his spacesuit, in near fine condition. Upon the verso of Armstrong and Aldrin's photo are notations by the men who acquired the autographs, aerospace artist William J. Numeroff and Dr. Anthony J. Cipriano, author of “America's Journeys Into Space: The Astronauts of the United States,” illustrated by Numeroff. They wrote: “Signature of Buzz Aldrin obtained from him in Car when Tony Cipriano drove him to Manhattan after his induction to N.J. Aviation Hall of Fame – May 20/80. Witnessed by William J. Numeroff”; “Signature of Neil Armstrong obtained by me at Wing’s Club Luncheon NYC 5/18/88. A J Cipriano.” Also noted in the lower left that this photograph was taken at the museum: “Photo By A.J. Cipriano / NASM 7-20-79 10th Anniv Apollo 11.” Finally, lot includes nine 5” x 3.25” color photos of the astronauts at the Smithsonian and a 8” x 11” black and white photo of the three astronauts at the NASM in front of the Apollo 11 Command Module. A unique lot for the Apollo 11 collector.
