Scarce swatch of Kapton foil removed from the thermal blanket of the Lunar Module Snoopy prior to the launch of the Apollo 10 mission, measuring 1.5? x 1?, mounted and matted with a detailed certificate of authenticity signed in blue felt tip by Commander Tom Stafford, which reads, in part: "Of the nine manned LM's that flew, none returned to the Earth: six were purposefully crashed back into the moon, and two burned up in the Earth's atmosphere. Only Snoopy remains! Before we left lunar orbit, we jettisoned Snoopy. Mission Control then fired its engines one last time, sending the craft into a heliocentric orbit around the Sun where he will continue to cruise the night sky for eternity, returning to our area of the solar system about every forty years." The authenticity statement: "Actual piece of Snoopy's outer skin, removed just prior to launch to replace a faulty inner component. This was a segment of the 25-layer Kapton thermal blanket that surrounded the descent stage, and is one of the only few remaining pieces of Snoopy still in existence on Earth." Framed to an overall size of 13.75 x 19.75. In fine condition.
