Flight-flown printed American flag, 6 x 4, along with a flight-flown crew emblem patch, 3.5-inch diameter, flown aboard Apollo 9, the third manned Apollo spaceflight during a 10-day voyage in March 1969. Both items are affixed to a 13.5 x 11 certificate stating: “Carried into space during the flight of Apollo IX 3–13 March 1969.” Signed in black felt tip by James A. McDivitt, Rusty Schweickart, and Dave Scott who has added “To Al Bishop with sincere appreciation for your continued interest and support.” Affixed to a same-sized piece of cardstock. In very good condition with mild toning, foxing, wrinkling, and a few edge tears. The patch and flag are largely unaffected. Bishop, the original recipient, was a close friend and confidant to many of the Apollo astronauts and created specially produced cachet envelopes that the crews of Apollo 12 through Apollo 16 carried with them on their lunar voyages. Such a presentation from a crew with attached flight-flown items are uncommon.
