Apocalypse Now Capt. Willard (Martin Sheen) Signed Photos
Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece "Apocalypse Now" (1979) is known perhaps more for what went into making the film than the astonishing screen epic that it finally became. Among all the problems that made it one of the longest shooting schedules in film history were personal setbacks, including a massive heart attack by the star Martin Sheen, playing Captain Benjamin L. Willard, during the filming. These are two production stills from the movie. Both are B&W and 8"x10". The first shows Willard on the US Navy Patrol Boat that is taking him up the Nung River into Cambodia to kill Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brand). You can see a very young Laurence Fishburne playing "Tyrone" in the background. The second photo is of Willard during the climax, rising from the river in a cloud of fog, hair slicked back, faced in camo-makeup, as he prepares himself for the final sneak attack on Kurtz to kill him like a "sacrificial cow". Both photos are signed and dated by Martin Sheen.
