Apache Full Size Willow Cradle Board c. 1940s-60s
Featured in this lot is this Apache, full size, willow cradle board, circa 1940's - 1960's. This cradle board shows Indian tanned hide construction with woven willow support structure and a yellow, polychrome painted child's basket. The cradle board appears to be a full size variety that would fit a newborn child. The Apache are a group of culturally-related Native American tribes in the Southwestern United States, which include the Chiricahua, Jicarilla, Lipan, Mescalero, Mimbreño, Ndendahe (Bedonkohe or Mogollon and Nednhi or Carrizaleño and Janero), Salinero, Plains (Kataka or Semat or "Kiowa-Apache"), and Western Apache (Aravaipa, Pinaleño, Coyotero, Tonto). The piece shows a fine condition, and it is truly a wonderful, well displayed piece that shows unbelievable craftsmanship and good museum condition. The measurements of this cradle board are 33 1/2" x 13" x 13".
