Apache Belt Beaded Buffalo Sheath & Trade Knife
The lot features a beaded sheath with USS copper plate and pewter inlaid trade knife attributed to the Apache Indians. The U.S.S. refers to the United States Indian Service which used Indian scouts working for the United States government. The copper piece also shows a cross arrow etching, its age is unknown. The sheath is Indian tanned Buffalo Bison hide with fringed border and atop geometric beadwork done in glass trade beads which colors of greasy yellow, greasy green and medium blue. The top strap shows two rows of solid brass old trade beads with a median ridge down the center on an Indian hide belt strap. The knife shows a solid hardwood, likely rosewood with a poured silver pewter circle design. The knife measures 9”L. The sheath is 17”L by approx.. 4”W at the fringes.
