Italian anatomist (1752–1832) who wrote several important treatises on a wide range of anatomical and medical subjects. Scarce ALS in Italian, one page, 7.5 x 10, December 18, [1796]. Lengthy letter to the representative of the French Republic in recently occupied Pavia. Scarpa writes that he "as every good citizen should do" has agreed to pay the new military tax of 600 lire imposed by the French, despite not having been paid the salary he is entitled to as director of surgery in the medical school for two months, even though his colleagues have been paid. He attributes the mistake to the fact that treasurer Giuseppe Ceriani has not yet signed the necessary papers and trusts that his correspondent, Ceriani's superior, will remind him of this injustice. After payments are resumed Scarpa says he will be better able to maintain the regularity of his classes, where the students have been showing great zeal and assiduity. In fine condition, with seal-related paper loss to the integral address leaf.
