Autograph letter signed by Cuban patriot Antonio Maceo y Grajales, who tirelessly fought the Spanish in 500 battles, mostly via guerrilla warfare, earning him the nicknames the ''Bronze Titan'' and ''Greater Lion.'' Dated 22 January 1880, letter reads in part, ''Mr. Izuamus, My office in Jamaica…of Mrs. Maria Cabrales de Maceo, who has all the powers needed in the present case, so that you may deal with her without the danger of finding fault in her assessment; therefore, she is vested with the indispensable authority to proceed with the arrangement by the powers entrusted to her by…Sincerely, Antonio.'' During this time, Maceo was residing in Jamaica, after having lost the Ten Years' War in Cuba to a surrender he didn't endorse. He would also live in Costa Rica and Haiti for a short time before returning to Cuba to fight the War of Independence. 7.5'' x 5'' letter in very good condition.
