Mexican general and politician (1794–1876) best known in the US for his role in the Mexican-American War and the slaughter of scores of Americans at the Alamo. Partly-printed DS in Spanish, signed “Ant. Lopez de Santa Anna,” one page, 8.25 x 11.75, May 16, 1839. Untranslated appointment of Rafael Larracilla as lieutenant in the 1st Company of the 2nd Artillery Brigade. Signed at the conclusion by Santa Anna as provisional president of Mexico and countersigned by Jose Maria Tornel as minister of war. In good to very good condition, with splits to folds, old mounting strip to edge, and scattered stains and foxing.
