National Conservatory of Music business check, 8.5 x 3.25, filled out in another hand and made payable to Antonin Dvorak for $937.50, January 31, 1893, endorsed on the reverse by the composer, “Antonin Dvorak.” In fine condition, with expected check wear. Accompanied by an unsigned postcard photo. This check is evidently related to payment of Dvorak’s salary at the Conservatory, where he was director from 1892 to 1895. At the time he cashed this check, Dvorák was in the midst of composing what his arguably his best-known and most beloved work, the Symphony No. 9, ‘From the New World.’
