Antoine Pierre Aubert, French Bronze Figural Mantel Clock
This exceptional 19th century French figural mantel clock features a finely cast patinated bronze sculpture of a classical hunter seated beside a faithful hound, atop an elegant architectural clock case. The male figure is dressed in draped robes and a wreath-adorned hat, rendered with exquisite detail and a subtle naturalistic finish. The base is decorated with scrolled ornamentation, palm reliefs, and rests on an undulating white marble plinth. The central clock face features Roman numerals within a gilt bezel, while the interior of the mechanism is stamped with the serial number 2694 and a classic French clockmaker's emblem. Antoine Pierre Aubert was a noted sculptor of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for his refined bronze works rooted in classical and mythological subject matter. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, where his sensitive modeling and graceful compositions earned critical praise. Aubert's sculptures often adorned decorative objects, including clocks and garnitures, and remain prized for their elegance and craftsmanship. The sculpture is marked Aubert on the front of the pedestal behind the figure's right leg. Approximate sculpture dimensions: 22"L x 8"W x 22"H. Base dimensions: 26"L x 19"W.
