Antiquities of France, 2 Vols., in English, 1750
Two large folio volumes: MONTFAUCON, M. DE.  A Collection of Regal and Ecclesiastical Antiquities in France, in Upwards of Three Hundred large Folio Copper Plates. Copied from originals... Representing All that peculiarly concerns the Persons, Families, and Illustrious Actions of Many of the Kings, Queens, Dauphins, and other Children of France... by that very learned Antiquary Bernard de Montfaucon, and now printed with Historical Explanation of the several Plates in English. In Two Volumes. Vols I-II. Folios (16 1/2 x 10 5/8 in.). London: Printed for W. Innys, J. and P. Knapton, and R. Manby, 1750. Calf, six gilt raised bands interspersed with gilt decoration, red gilt title labels (missing on Vol. II) and black gilt volume labels to spine. Frontispiece in Vol. I. Many of the plates are double-page.  Fair. Both volumes appear mostly complete, but some plates may have been removed. Covers have considerable allover wear, rubbing, scratching, stains, spines very rubbed, boards showing at corners, large patches of loss to leather. Vol. I has bookplate and pencil inscription on pastedown, and glued on newspaper clipping to free endpaper, along with a previous owner's signature. Foxing/toning mostly on first few and last few pages, but most of the pages/plates look good.
