Very lovely antique Jerusalem cross, belonged to one of the oldest families here in the Las Cruces, New Mexico area. Their family came with the conquistadores 500 years ago. The cross belonged to Isabel Terrazas Amador. It was sold at auction several years ago, when the old Amador house was sold. I don't know if she went to Jerusalem or someone in the family went and brought it back to her. She Kept it in the accompanying chatelaine purse. The cross is made of some kind of wood, maybe olive, and is inset with mother of pearl, on the back are all the stations of the cross, set in the mother of pearl. Jerusalem is also marked on the back. The figure of Christ is probably nickel silver or some kind of pot metal. The cross measures 6 inches high, and 3 inches wide, is in near mint condition, no loss of pearl, no real damage I can see, The chatelaine purse it came in is not in great condition, glass beads are missing, the velvet is somewhat dirty, and the lining is coming out. I did not want to throw it away, as it came with the cross, and isabel probably handled this every day. Thanks for shopping in the Land of Enchantment!
