12th. century CE green jade carving featuring a rhyton in shape of a phoenix bird. The beaker has a hydra carved in high relief on the side of the container. A tao tie mask mount is located above the rectangular handle that has a contained ring. The wall of the rhyton is decorated with C-scrolls pattern and a "Greek key" design near the edge. Size: 6.5" X 6" (16.5 X 15 cm.). Estimated value: $25,000. Provenance: Dr. Veleanu's jade collection, the author of the illustrated reference book: "Jade, 5000 BC to 1912 AD, Guide to collectors".
