Howard Campion was active/lived in California / England. Howard Campion is known for portraits, landscape, still life.
Born in England in 1839. Campion studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. During 1868-69 Campion painted in Virginia City, NV. Coming then to California he painted portraits of the Tully family in Monterey. From 1871-76 he maintained a studio in San Francisco at 240 Montgomery. During this time he made painting trips to Oregon. He was active in Gilroy, CA circa 1900 and then returned to England. His work includes landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. Exh: Calif. State Fair, 1869-87; Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1871, 1872, 1887; Royal Academy of Arts, 1876-83; London 1909 (award). In: San Jose Historical Society; Oregon Historical Society; Robt L. Stevenson House (Monterey).
