Antique breech loading cane gun signed inside action “Richard Ellis & Sons Gun & Rifle Manufactures, St. Mary’s square, Birmingham, Eng.” Circa about 1870-1885. This well made cane gun shows a black Japanned or paintedmetal body with a simple wood grip and a detachable shoulder stock. A thumb latch locks the action and the breech is exposed by a left hand twist of the handle. Approx 20 gauge black powder, center fire with shortcase 2-1/2” or less. The condition is near fine with 90-95% painted finish, a few small chips and losses with rust and erosion starting at the metal where finish is lost. The grip and stock are very good and a muzzle cap is included. Measures 48” with stock attached, cane portion 36”, barrel portion 26”. From an old N.Y. old collector’s estate. Est.;$1,250-$2,500.
