<td width="100%">
Antique wood plane marked H. Chapin -- a magic and famous name familiar to antiquers as a family of 18th C. furniture makers working in the Windsor-Hartford area of the CT Valley. Hermon Chapin (bn. 1799, died 1866) founded the Union Factory in 1826 in Pine Meadow, CT to produce fine cabinetmaker&#39;s tools. This 19th C. plane is made of beautifully figured cherrywood with a wonderful undisturbed patina and natural signs of use. Marked on nose: UNION FACTORY WARRANTED H. CHAPIN, No. 112 (mark used 1826-66). Metal blade marked Baldwin Middletown, CT, U. S. A. Not your ordinary wood planer, this one has a very special significance to collectors of early American furniture. (add $12.50 shipping in USA)
