Manufactured in 1893, this rifle is chambered in the highly desirable 50 Express caliber. Beaded blade front and three leaf express rear sights, 26 inch round barrel and half magazine. The top of the barrel is marked "MANUFACTURED BY THE/---WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. --", the top of the barrel at the breech is marked "50EX", the upper tang is marked "---Model 1886---" and the lower tang is marked with the 1884 and 1885 patent dates directly behind the trigger and the serial is marked at the rear of the lower tang. In addition, the left rear of the barrel is marked "500EX" upside down and there is a "crown/GP/crown/V/indiscernible" proof marks as well as a "crown / V" proof on the front upper left side of the receiver. Blue barrel with casehardened remaining parts and mounted on smooth varnished walnut forearm and straight grip stock with an iron shotgun buttplate. The accompanying Cody Museum letter verifies the caliber, rifle configuration, round barrel, plain trigger, half-magazine, shotgun buttplate, that it was received in the warehouse on April 22, 1893 and that it was shipped April 27,1893, order number 16903.

Condition: Good. The barrel has been period refinished and now has a dark brown patina with some scattered minor oxidation and a small amount of minor pitting. The remaining metal surfaces have a brown patina and show some minor pitting on the receiver and lever, and some minor oxidation on the buttplate. The wood has been refinished with a coat of varnish some time ago and remains very good with most of the varnish remaining and some scattered minor dings and scratches. The markings are readable. Mechanically excellent.
