Antique Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle, Third Model, #267754B, .32 WCF (.32-20 CF) cal., blued 24'' octagonal barrel, with dovetailed (has a tiny set-screw) blade front and buckhorn rear sights, marked with maker's name, address, and ''King's Improvement'' patent dates on top flat, and ''32 W.C.F'' at breech; blued tubular cartridge magazine; case hardened receiver with blued sliding dustcover is mounted with a sliding-peep folding tang sight, and marked ''Model 1873'', flanked by feather-like brackets on upper tang, and ser. no. on lower; brass cartridge lifter is marked ''32 Cal.''; case hardened hammer and loop operating lever; varnished walnut forearm with steel nose cap, matching buttstock with steel crescent rifle buttplate. Factory letter confirms all features, shipped from the warehouse July 20, 1888, Order number 9801. Condition is fine. Barrel retains approx. 85% smooth original blue, mag tube shows mostly brown patina with traces of blue; receiver, hammer and lever retain 50% original mottled case colors, buttplate and nose cap are gunmetal gray with scattered light discoloration. Stocks are sound and smooth showing lovely figure and color and retain most original varnish to buttstock. Action is tight and smooth; bore shines with defined rifling. A well-cared-for example.
