Antique Winchester Model 1866 4th Model Lever Action Cartridge Rifle, #147191, .44 RF cal., 24'' round barrel with dovetailed German-silver long blade front sight and dovetail for a leaf rear sight marked on top ''Winchester's-Repeating-Arms, New Haven, CT./King's-Improvement-Patented-March 29, 1856, October 16, 1860.'' in two lines; full-length tubular under-barrel magazine, signature brass receiver, steel furniture including nosecap, loop operating lever, hammer and trigger; brass crescent buttplate with hinged trapdoor for cleaning rod (not present), oil-finished walnut forend and buttstock. Mfg'd 1866-98. Originally with blued barrel and magazine tube, case hardened lever and hammer, and unfinished brass parts. Condition is very good, the barrel and magazine tube retaining approx. 50% original blue mixing with age patina but no pitting, silvered/darkened case hardening, the brass an untouched aged tone. Stocks show minor dings from use and a secure crack at left wrist but are smooth, solid, fit well and have nice color. Rear sight is missing. Action functions as designed, bore shows general light black powder etching but is clean with defined rifling. An untouched Model 1866 ''Yellow Boy'' like this example is a real find today. Est.: $4,500-$6,500. (Antique)
