Up for auction today is an exquisite Victorian period solid mahogany sideboard. Handcrafted around 1880 in England, this piece simply epitomizes high-quality craftsmanship. The wood is simply amazing quality, and has developed a rich, alluring patina which will only grow better with age. The backboard is crowned by decorative, hand carved dark mahogany which looks stunning. The three drawers are also an exhibition in quality craftsmanship through their hand-cut dovetailed joints. Each drawer is deep and quite spacious. The two pedestals open up to reveal shelved cabinets (pictured below) and although they each have a key hole, the locks were removed years ago. This piece is absolutly amazing. In fact, it's one of the most beautiful sideboards of this period I've ever seen. On the whole the condition is excellent. The only problems are a few very tiny age splits, which could be found in ANY piece of this age, and really only guarintee this sideboard's authenticity. Also, the top of the carving looks to have been either cracked or knocked off some time in the past, but it was repaired and I didn't even notice the thin line left from the repair until my third or fourth examination of the piece. This sideboard is truely exceptional, and would make a great addition to a formal dining room setting.
