This is a rare and unique find. A free standing ashtray from the turn of the century.

This particular piece is a late Victorian, American piece due to the nature motifs of pinecones, needles and owls. Although some may call it arts and crafts, but the motifs are not insects, which were more typical motifs for that style.

This piece is made by the Wellington Stone Company of Chicago, IL. I have been unable to find out any more about the company.

The base of the piece is made of cast iron. The top is also likely cast iron, but is gold in color. The pole/stem is wooden. It is beautifully turned, carved and painted in gold and black.

The bottom of the base is stamped "Wellington Stone Co. No. 6 Pat Pend". The underneath side of the top piece of metal reads, "Wellington Stone Co. Pat. Pend. No. 7.".

Dimensions: 28" tall, 8 1/8" wide at widest point of base, top surface is 6"x6".

Condition: This piece is in good condition. It could use a good cleaning on the metal. The wooden stand part has some paint chipping, but quite frankly it is hard to notice due to all the carving and details, please see photos - more available upon request. The glass insert is in very good condition, though likely not original to the piece.

Please see photos.
