Victorian Rowing machine entitled The Seat of Health. When was the last time you saw a Victorian rowing machine? This piece is quite the contraption ? what a conversation piece it would make. It is marked underneath Made by Health Developing Apparatus Co. Bridgeport, Ct The Abdominal Exerciser a rowing machine patent applied for BA3. Underneath it has adjustments with 6 springs that adjust. It has a round insignia plate with a hallmark on it between the two foot sections. This is one of the early fold up models ? forerunner to the Boflek I guess. When you unfold it is stretches out to 4? long and it is 13?wide. All the mechanics seem to be working O.K. There is as I mentioned previously 6 spring mechanism ? two attached in the center right into a slot and the other four are attached to the ropes (the pulley type ropes). It?s got the handles you would pull the ropes on. The material that it is made out of I think is aluminum, I?m not sure, but whatever the material is it is heavily embossed and super decorative almost in that esthetic movement of the late 19th Century. When you are finished working out with this you can fold it back up to a mere 25? and could probably slide it under the bed. I think this piece is really a hoot. I would suspect that is not a very common item to find and best of all you could actually use it. If you have a Victorian living room and don?t want to trash it with a modern work out machine ? here is your answer.
